Day 2: breakfast came. The same story; inedible garbage. The 'group therapies' they do is strictly reading off of a work sheet, not really discussing it, and moving on. Or teaching us how to gamble. That was great. A+, Palmetto.
So, we all sat there while they cleaned Unit 5. After dinner - which, by the way, all the food is PRACTICALLY INEDIBLE GARBAGE. IT IS SHAMEFUL. - they moved us back to Unit 5. It was still very dirty, it didn't look like they cleaned at all.
Do not ever go here. I hope they get shut down soon. No one deserves to be here.
First of all, I was brought to Unit 6 to begin with - which is normally for children, because they were 'deep cleaning Unit 5'.
Then, because I was leaving 'against doctors wishes', they had me do their outpatient care program - IOP. Maggie, the social worker, is amazing. I love her. And she's the only reason I went for all 3 weeks, even though they told me it was a one week program.
The PHP/iOP team is amazing; they are truly caring individuals that help you recognize, treat, and manage your disease. It's all about chasing happy; how to start that process and continue beyond ..thank you Maggie, Payton, Joyce, Barbara, Dr. Lopez and the rest of the amazing team at Palmetto. I am very grateful
If you or a loved one needs mental health treatment, no place is going to be appealing. Palmetto Lowcountry is there to help.
I'm certain the treatment looks different in each ward, section, area.... I think I was in 4. It was a very rough time getting there, but I'm glad I did.
I ask for the doctor again.
My stay here was involuntary. Upon arrival I was greated with respect but no with answer as to how thing work as I was nervous about what was to come. I then found out that i was to remain under observation for 7-10 days regardless of results in my health, behavior, or eagerness to leave.
This place does not help anyone. It is over all horrible, disgusting, and useless. DO NOT SEND LOVED ONES HERE. No one deserves this treatment.
I was inpatient here for less than three days, as that's the only way to get antidepressants on short notice (less than six months) in this state.
This is a medical facility no one wants to be here, but it does help.
The phones are available most throughout the day except for lights out and group times.
On my first day there, my medication doseage was doubled for no reason and they claimed to have notes that I was not previously on meds (I have been). My side of the story of my acknowledgements and observations on my own health were ignored. I was however respected when I requested to see each pill label before consumption.
Unit 6 is just a room with chairs. There's nothing to do, you're not really allowed to go nap - because if you do they make a note of that and it's a mark against you.
7days I stayed, and I sat and watched the floors accumulate more and more trash and dust each day.
The treatment here is HORRIBLE. MOST of the nurses are terrible and should not be working here. The conditions are disgusting. I told them over and over they were not treating the bed bugs correctly, and they knew what my profession is, and they did not listen to me.
Group therapy was useless and there was never any one-on-one time with patience and therapy.
I wait a couple hours.
I would give less than no stars if I could. My cousin recently spent a few days here, and upon visitation (one hour) I was exposed to how things work in unit 7. I witnessed patients being harshly scolded for talking to eachother, and for asking to brush their teeth after snack. The staff is horrible, and frankly does not care. They are there to get their pay check and go home. All they do is scream and yell. The personal hygiene products provided were cheap and very low quality. You have to ask to use the restroom and 9/10 you are told no. The bathrooms are disgusting. The whole place spells and is unclean. I never once saw anyone clean, and neither did my cousin as they were there for four days. The patience would offer to sweep and mop because of the horrible conditions and were told that it was a safety hazard to have a broom in the same room with them. It was either freezing cold or hot as hell at all times. All they did was watch cartoons all day and lay in HARD bench like beds all night. The doctor never once contacted the family. No staff talked to the family until they were demanded to contact my aunt and give her information.
Day 3: I wake up, very early, and demand to see the doctor. I need to go home. I am leaving today. They tell me it'll just be a little while.
I spent 6 days voluntary and other than being a very bare environment, I adjusted and participated. The nursing staff for the most part was fantastic, they were always there to listen and explain. The doctors were a bit short with "bedside" activity, but it's to be expected when the medical industry just looks at patients as a number.
The condition of this place is appalling. I wouldn't send anyone here and I'd never recommend it. In fact, I'd beg people not to come here.
Night of Day 2: I FIND A BED BUG IN MY BED. They did not inform me that the reason they were cleaning Unit 5 is because of bed bugs. Also, as a professional in areas of this field, THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW TO TREAT FOR BED BUGS. THEY FUMIGATE THE ROOM THEY 'FIND THEM' IN AND MOVE ON. THEY ALSO FUMIGATED THE CARPET, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COMMON AREA, WHERE WE ALL WERE. I was told to strip, shower, put on paper scrubs, and my roommate and I were sent to sleep on mattresses, on the floor, of the 'quiet rooms', which is a jail cell.
Overall, my stay was not too bad due to the kindness of the staff. But my individual needs were not addressed fully as groups seemed to be most important to Palmetto Health. Use caution if your loved one is attmitted here and stay on top of medication changes. I myself benefitted little from my stay, but I did witness others who claimed that Palmetto was the right fit for them.
Cafeteria trips are only allowed to patients with good behavior and who have been there at least 72hrs. The food is bland.
I was not released until after 7 p.m.
This went on all day, until I finally asked for a supervisor. I began asking to see my doctor at 8 a.m. and I did not see him until almost 6 p.m.
Patients can expect 4-5 mandatory group sessions a day and 4-5 times a day of being asked the same questions (are you wanting to hurt yourself, any medication side affects, last bowel movement etc..).
