Friends of the Hunley volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable... they keep learning more about this historic first American submarine so you can discover something new on future visits.
This was my 5th visit to see the Hunley. I'm a local who is always showing our visitors around the Charleston area. It's amazing to see such important history first hand. Don't forget to visit the magnolia cemetery 2 miles down the road where the numerous crews of the Hunley are buried.
Wonderful experience seeing the Hunley in person. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. His narrative was interesting from start to finish. Not only do you learn about the restoration process, but you also learn alot about the crew onboard and the war.

Great history lesson. Can see the submarine which is being worked on in a tank to preserve it. Has a tour which gives information on the history of the Hunley and what happened that night. Still up for debate on what actually caused it to sink and the staff gives their theories and you can form your own and even vote on the three most popular theories. Can tour the museum after the tour or before.
